Questions we get asked a lot.

If yours isn't here, ask us. If we get asked it often enough, it goes on this page.

Quotes & orders
How fast do I get a quote?

Within one working day for most requests. Long tender specs can take a little longer, and we'll tell you when to expect it.

Is there a minimum order?

Not a fixed one. Shipping costs make very small orders expensive per item, so we'll usually suggest combining them into a shared container. For food, a full container is normally the minimum.

How long is a quote valid?

Usually 7 to 14 days, because steel, oil and freight prices move. The validity date is printed on every quote.

Can I buy cigarettes or shisha from you?

Only if you're a licensed importer, wholesaler or duty-free operator. We ask for your company registration and tobacco licence for the destination country before we quote. We don't sell tobacco to individuals.

Can I see the goods before they ship?

Yes. We send photos and a packing list before loading. You can also send your own inspector, or ask us to book an independent inspection company.

Payment
How do I pay?

By bank transfer to our account in the UAE. For new customers, the usual terms are a deposit with the order and the balance before goods leave Dubai. We also accept confirmed letters of credit.

Which currencies do you accept?

US dollars and UAE dirhams. Other currencies by agreement.

Can I get credit terms?

After a few orders, yes. We look at order history and, for larger amounts, trade credit insurance.

How do I know a payment request is really from you?

Our bank details never change by email. If you get a message saying they have, call us on +971 4 584 5996 before paying anything. Invoice fraud is common in trade, and a phone call stops it.

Shipping & customs
Which Incoterms do you use?

Mostly CIF or CFR to the port, and DAP or DDP if you want delivery to your door. We use Incoterms® 2020, and the term is written on every quote.

Who handles customs clearance at my end?

Your clearing agent, or one of our partner agents if you'd rather we arrange it. Under DDP we handle it all and the duties are in the price.

What documents come with the shipment?

Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or airway bill, and certificate of origin. Conformity, health or inspection certificates are included when the goods or your country require them.

Is my shipment insured?

Under CIF and CIP, yes, we arrange cargo insurance. Under other terms we can add it if you ask.

How do I track an order?

Ask your contact at Bab Al Amani, by phone, email or WhatsApp. You'll get the vessel name, container number and expected arrival date, and we'll tell you if anything changes.

Tenders
Can you bid as our supply partner?

Yes. We can be the main bidder, or back a local company with a supply agreement and the documents the tender asks for.

Do you provide bid and performance bonds?

Yes, through our bank, subject to the bank's approval for the amount and the tender terms.

How early should I send the tender?

As early as you can. A week before the deadline is workable, but two weeks gives us time for supplier quotes and manufacturer letters.

Still have a question?
